Amplifying the Ability Philosophy

As a Founding Partner of U.S. Paralympics, The Hartford has been supporting disabled athletes since 1994. Doing so exemplifies the company’s longstanding Ability Philosophy, which champions the prevailing spirit within us all and focuses on what we can do, never what we can’t.

Over the course of three Olympic games, we captured not just the personal triumph and tragedy of our Paralympic athletes—but the inner determination to not let their disabilities define them.

And by continuing to support the athletes in the offseason with social content, the Hartford was able to amplify their Will to Prevail message well beyond the shining moments in London, Sochi and Rio.

TV / Digital Video / Social Media

MELISSA STOCKWELL, LONDON 2012

A U.S. Army Veteran, Melissa was a swimmer and triathlete. We were lucky enough to shoot with Janusz Kaminski, the Academy award-winning cinematographer who’s shot every Steven Speilberg film since Schindler’s List.

EVAN STRONG, SOCHI 2014

A longer form, content piece, we shot this in and around Crested Butte to showcase not just Evan’s incredible athleticism, but his infectious personality, as well. A free spirit and a role model, he’s an advocate for adaptive sports all year round.

AMY PURDY, SOCHI 2014

Surviving a near fatal bout of bacterial meningitis, Amy lost both legs in high school. She’s since become a World Champion and Paralympic medalist, even most recently in PyeongChang.

BRAD SNYDER, RIO 2016

One of the most inspirational speakers you’ll ever hear, Brad’s journey from the U.S. Naval Academy to Afghanistan to Paralympic podiums in both London and Rio, is a story like no other. This proactive, no-budget video was created as a last-minute push for ESPY voting for Best Male Athlete with a Disability. Best experienced with your volume up and headphones on.
