ST. LOUIS – St. Louis’ newest AgTech innovation district, 39° North (@39NorthSTL), was officially announced on Wednesday morning at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in Creve Coeur. Rodgers Townsend, a St. Louis-based integrated advertising agency, was responsible for the name, positioning and logo development, as well as defining the 39° North brand standards.

St. Louis and the district sit in a region well suited to agriculture – the lands right above the 38th parallel and below the 39th. This extends all the way across the state of Missouri, and is home to many of the world’s leading plant science, ag tech and innovation companies.

The logo design is rooted in science, conjuring a sense of focus and perspective, with identifiable elements of the periodic table and microscope slide. Driven by innovation and discovery in food, energy, medicine and technology, the droplet-shaped degree symbol translates across sectors. And as a district that’s building and adding to its community, the brackets become a framing device that can float above imagery – plant life, circuit boards, a place setting in a restaurant – so the logo can constantly evolve.
